Messaging terms
Mema is run by Auxo Digital (Pty) Ltd, South Africa.
Mema sends messages by email and, if you agree, by WhatsApp. This page explains which messages, how often, and how to change or stop them.
1. Email
Messages you always get
These are needed to run your registration, so they are sent even if you switched off other emails:
- Your registration confirmation, calendar invite, ticket and QR code.
- Approval, waitlist and payment results, and refunds.
- A notice if the host changes the time or place, or cancels the event.
- A copy of your registration if you register again with the same email.
Messages you can switch off
- Reminders: about 24 hours and about 1 hour before the event starts.
- Updates and recaps: a photo recap the morning after the event.
- Feedback: one request when the event ends.
- Messages from the host: announcements the host sends to guests of the event.
- Invitations and news: about the host's future events, only if you ticked "Keep me posted".
For a typical event that adds up to between 3 and 6 emails. Hosts have weekly sending limits.
2. WhatsApp
We only send WhatsApp messages if you gave a mobile number and ticked the WhatsApp box ("Send me WhatsApp messages about this event: my confirmation, reminders, changes to the time or place, the host's approval decision, a cancellation and the join link."). The box is never ticked for you. WhatsApp messages always come in addition to email, never instead of it. If you ticked an earlier version of the box that mentioned only reminders and updates, you get only reminders, the join link and changes on WhatsApp for that event. WhatsApp messages are sent for Mema by Auxo Digital's shared WhatsApp sender, through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform.
WhatsApp messages are about the event you registered for:
- your registration confirmation;
- approval results and waitlist offers;
- reminders about 24 hours and about 1 hour before, and a link when an online event starts;
- changes to the time or place, and cancellations.
For a typical event that is between 2 and 5 messages. We do not send marketing on WhatsApp.
Stopping WhatsApp messages
- Reply STOP to stop Mema's WhatsApp messages. STOP also stops any marketing on WhatsApp from every Auxo Digital product. If you reply STOP without answering a particular message and we can't tell which product you mean, it stops WhatsApp messages from all of them.
- Reply STOP ALL to stop WhatsApp messages from every Auxo Digital product that uses the same number.
- Reply START to receive them again.
Ticking the WhatsApp box again when you register for a new Mema event turns Mema's messages back on. It does not undo STOP ALL; only replying START does that.
Stopping WhatsApp never stops your emails. You still get your confirmation, ticket, any change of time or place and any cancellation notice by email.
3. Changing your preferences
- Every reminder, update and host email has a link at the bottom. Use it to switch email on or off for each kind of message. Reminders and change notices also have a WhatsApp column, which works on its own and never switches email off. It is greyed out, with the reason, when we can't send you WhatsApp messages.
- The same page lets you stop messages from one organiser, or stop all messages that are not essential.
- Your email app may also show an "Unsubscribe" button. It stops non-essential emails from that organiser in one click.
- To cancel your registration altogether, use the link in your confirmation email.
Changes take effect straight away. A message that was already on its way may still arrive.
4. Costs
Mema does not charge you for messages. Your mobile network may charge for data.
